Allowances in Detail

ipsaSince I was elected to serve as MP for Worsley and now Worsley and Eccles South, I feel it is right that details of my expenditure from allowances should be accessible to local people.

I have voted for reform, including measures which ensure transparency of claims with receipts required to back any claim.

Full details of my allowance claims from 2005 to the first quarter of 2010 can be viewed on the UK Parliament website and have been reproduced here. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has now taken over the system of MPs' expenses and allowances and details of the new scheme are available here.

The next update of MPs' claims will be published on the House of Commons website in June 2010.

Below are links to files of edited scans of documents submitted in support of claims made against:

  • the Additional Costs Allowance - paid to reimburse Members for necessary costs incurred when staying overnight away from their main home

  • the Incidental Expenses Provision - the costs associated with running an office

  • the Communications Allowance - introduced in 2007/08 which provides funds for MPs to communicate with constituents

The blocked out areas in the scanned files do not hide purchases, but are to protect sensitive information such as bank account details, addresses, telephone numbers, confidential information about staff etc. Some of the files are large and may take a short while to download.

You may need Adobe Acrobat reader to open these files – available here http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/
