Barbara hopes Heart of Winton centre goes from strength to strength
Barbara joined specially-invited guests and hundreds of local people at the opening of the newly refurbished Magdalene Centre in Winton on 7th January. The Bishop of Manchester, the Lord Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Salford’s Mayor and Mayoress and Deputy Leader of the Council, David Lancaster joined Barbara and Father Ian Hall at the opening event. The Bishop of Manchester said a prayer of dedication, the Lord Lieutenant unveiled a special plaque and the Mayor cut a celebration cake, all to mark the opening event. Barbara then spoke to welcome the opening of the refurbished centre. Barbara said: “It is great that 2012 is starting with the opening of a centre like this at the heart of the community in Winton. The centre will be used by a toddlers’ playgroup and by girls and boys wanting to join the Boy’s Brigade for activities. It will also be used by a Karate club and for Zumba classes. “I was pleased to see so many local people showing their support by attending the opening and I hope the centre goes from strength to strength as a base offering affordable local services to the Winton community. Congratulations to Father Ian Hall and all those who helped him to hold such a successful opening event.”
