Barbara takes campaign against M60 widening from Junctions 12 to 15 to Highways Minister

MEN profile Barbara is continuing to campaign against the Highways Agency’s proposals to add a lane to the M60 motorway from Junctions 12 to 15.

When the proposals were first announced, Barbara voiced objections on behalf of her constituents. She held a meeting with the former Secretary of State for Transport, Geoff Hoon MP, outlining the objections and concerns of local people.

More recently, Barbara has raised the issue with the Minister for Highways, Chris Mole MP, and Transport Secretary Andrew Adonis.

Barbara said:

“I know that local residents in Worsley constituency are very concerned that the Lane Gain proposals will add to the pollution, noise and safety fears they already have about the M60.

“Many residents live very close to the motorway and if there is any removal of trees or fencing the impact would be substantial. We have already had accidents on the M60 where drivers and vehicles came through fencing or walls and I am very concerned about the idea of vehicles travelling any closer to residents’ homes.

“I will continue to campaign on these proposals on behalf of my constituents as I feel they are not the right way or a safe way to ease congestion on the M60.”
