Barbara marked Armed Forces Day by leading the Armed Forces Day Parade through Winton. The parade ended in Winton Park where Barbara met veterans from Salford.

Armed Forces Day is a day to show support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community - from troops who are serving currently, their families, veterans and cadets.

Barbara and Deputy Lieutenant Paul Griffiths were joined by Rebecca Long-Bailey MP and Councillor Paul Dennett at the start of the parade. The parade marched through Winton led by the Cadishead Public Band and ended at the Winton Festival in Winton Park. Members of local squadrons marching in the parade including the Royal Logistic Corps 236, Transport Squadron 319 and the Air and Sea Cadets.

Barbara said:

“I am proud to have led this parade to mark Armed Forces Day in Worsley and Eccles South, to honour the brave men and women who keep our country safe. It was a privilege to meet and talk to veterans including Albert Leek from Walkden, a 92 year old veteran of the Arctic Convoys.  It was also good to meet volunteers with the Salford Armed Forces Network, who do a great job supporting our veterans and their families.”

“I would like to congratulate the organisers of the Winton Festival for creating such a successful event for our local community. Cadishead Public Band did an excellent job of leading the parade and playing at the festival. This is the very best of our community in Worsley and Eccles South and it makes me proud to represent local people in Parliament.”
