Barbara to run City of Manchester 10k to raise funds for Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau

BKCRCABarbara plans to run the City of Manchester 10k race on Sunday 3rd July to raise funds for Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau.  The race will start and finish at the Commonwealth Games Athletics Stadium.

Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau is a registered charity and relies on grant funding and donations to stay open.  The Bureau has served Salford since 1939 and was one of the first Advice Bureaux to be founded.  The Advice Bureau offers free, confidential information and advice to help people with debt, legal matters, consumer and other problems. However this valuable service could be under threat due to grant cuts and uncertainty about funding in future.

Barbara said:

“Walkden Citizens Bureau provides a vital local service- offering advice and support on a range of issues particularly on debt and legal issues.  The loss of the Bureau or any of its services would hit local people very hard; leaving many without the valuable help they need during these difficult times. If the Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau closes, people in Walkden and the surrounding areas will not have access to the local advice services that many people need.

“I am taking part in the City of Manchester 10k to raise money to help keep the Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau open and I hope that local people and businesses will support my run through sponsoring me.

“I hope local people and businesses will step in to support their local Citizens Advice.”

Tom Togher, Salford Citizens Advice Bureaux's Chief Executive, said:

"We are really grateful to Barbara, and to all those who are helping us keep Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau open".

To sponsor Barbara and support Walkden Citizens Advice, please send a cheque made payable to ‘Citizens Advice (Salford)’ and send to Barbara’s office at: First floor, 37 Manchester Road, Walkden M28 3NS. Barbara will then forward all donations to the Walkden Citizens Advice Bureau.
