Worsley constituency is located in the North West of England, and covers parts of both the City of Salford, and the Borough of Wigan, forming part of Greater Manchester. It has excellent transport connections, and is a popular place to live.
It includes the communities of Walkden, Little Hulton, Boothstown, Ellenbrook and Worsley within the City of Salford , and Tyldesley, Astley, Mosley Common, and parts of Atherton and Leigh, including Higher Folds, within Wigan.
Historically, coal mining was a major local industry. This has made a major impact on the landscape, although there has not been any mining in the area for some years. The winding gear at the former Astley Green colliery has been preserved, and is the only remaining example in the region.
Another famous local feature is the Bridgewater canal, which was open by 1765, and is famous for being orange in colour, due to the network of underground canals which run for many miles from picturesque Worsley village.
