I was deeply saddened to hear about the tragic death of Alan Henning.   Alan gave his life to help people far away from his home and his community in Eccles. He wanted to deliver food and aid to children and families in Syria in their time of need. He was a true humanitarian who cared about people and wanted to make a difference.

Alan’s family and friends and many local people have said what a decent and compassionate man Alan was. The outpouring of heartfelt comments about Alan from the local community in Eccles pays tribute to that.

We have lost a local hero.

My thoughts and prayers are with Alan’s family and friends at this very sad time.

The Eccles community has been and will continue to be united in wanting to honour Alan’s memory and to support his family and I want to help with that in any way I can.
