As the Co-chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Women’s Sport and Fitness I work to promote increased participation and representation of women and girls in sport.

Along with Co-chair Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson, our work has focused on promoting women’s sport and fitness activities at both the grass roots and professional level. We have campaigned on issues such as the inadequate coverage of women’s sports in the media and on the wide gender pay gap affecting women in sport. We have also worked to raise awareness of the need to offer girls a better choice of sports both in school and outside school.

We campaigned successfully for the Department of Culture Media and Sport Select Committee to launch an inquiry into Women and Sport. This resulted in the publication of a report which investigated the barriers preventing participation in sport by women and girls, and how these can be overcome.

The All-party group continues to promote women’s participation in sport to help ensure that women do not miss out on the benefits of a healthy and active lifestyle.
