Barbara has joined the headteacher of Harrop Fold School, Dr Antony Edkins in donating the prize of two hampers and hi-fi equipment won at the Harrop Fold Christmas Fair to local families affected by the Farepak collapse.
Locally, it is known that a small number of families have been victims of the collapse of Farepak, losing hard earned savings and vouchers in the run up to Christmas.
By donating the two hampers won in the raffle at the school fair, Barbara and Dr Edkins hope to help the families affected by the loss of their savings.
"These prizes will not in themselves make up for the loss of the money lost recently, but will hopefully go some way towards making Christmas a little brighter for the families affected.
"Dr Edkins and I decided that it would be better to ensure that the prizes went to people who needed them most at this time.
"The Farepak collapse was a real blow for some families in Worsley constituency and I have already donated a day’s salary toward the response fund to help those in need.
"These prizes are just something extra that we hope will be enjoyed by those who receive them over Christmas."
