Barbara Keeley MP

LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara attends an exhibition of the art of Tibetan children

Tibetan children artBarbara attended the opening at Westminster of an exhibition entitled 'The Art of Exile' showing the art of children who had fled from Tibet to the Children's Village at Dharamsala, India.

Barbara said:

"The pictures drawn by the children show of their longing for Tibet and also show the story of their dramatic journeys across the Himalayas.

"We heard that, to escape detection, the children undertake this journey across the Himalayan mountains without much food or extra clothing or footwear. The extreme cold can mean them getting frostbite, which can lead to the loss of toes or even a foot.

“It was very moving to see the drawings of these refugee children from Tibet"
