LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara attends Democracy Day

Barbara visited Salford Council's Democracy Day, held at the Civic Centre.

The day was held as a way of connecting Salford residents with the Council and the role of the Local Authority in provision of services.

Barbara was involved in the 'Election Time' session. This engaged pupils from St Patrick's High School and Albion High School with ways of campaigning in elections.

The pupils were guided by Barbara in thinking about the message they wanted to get across and how to approach a campaign. Barbara also gave advice on what the pupils wanted to offer to electors and how to develop slogans that would promote those aims.

Barbara said:

"Engaging with these young people about putting forward different proposals and messages was fun. I hope that Democracy Day gives them some ideas about what can be achieved through campaigning.

"I would like to see as many of them as possible participating in community life. I can see that there is a great deal of promise here for the future of Salford."
