Barbara has called on the Government to take action to get people back into work after figures released yesterday showed that there have been steep rises in unemployment and youth unemployment since last year.
New data released by the Office of National Statistics has revealed that unemployment in Worsley and Eccles South has increased by 20%, with youth unemployment rising by 27% since last March. Unemployment figures for North West region also make grim reading, with increases in 12% and 18% respectively.
“Since the election, this Conservative-led Government has made cuts too far and too fast, stalling the economic recovery and leaving increasing numbers of people without jobs. The Government has squandered the opportunity in last month’s budget to take action for jobs and growth. It has chosen to give a tax cut to millionaires whilst punishing pensioners and hard working families with tax increases and cuts.
“Labour’s five point plan for jobs and growth would use a tax on bankers bonuses to get 110,000 young people across the country into work, giving them hope for the future.”
