Barbara campaigning against Post Office closures

BK Post OfficeBarbara, Labour’s Parliamentary Candidate for Worsley, has handed in a petition from Walkden people, who are saying a firm "NO" to the proposals from Post Office Ltd to close their local branch post office.

Barbara commented:

"Post Office Ltd wants to close all four branch offices in Walkden and Little Hulton. To see what local people in Walkden thought of this, I took a petition to the residents in Walkden served by the Linnyshaw branch post office on Manchester Road.."

"Many local people were keen to sign the petition, which sends a resounding NO message to the Post Office’s closure plans. Many people are only able to reach their local branch office and find travelling to the Post Office at the shopping centres more difficult.

"People also fear that if all four branch post offices close, the main Post Offices in Walkden Precinct and Little Hulton District Centre will be swamped, and unable to cope. Post Office customers already find it difficult with queues at the main post offices. For people who are elderly or not feeling well, having to stand in a queue for some time to pay your bill or get your pension can be just too hard.

"Post Office Ltd should think again about these proposals and try to find ways of keeping this essential service for local people."
