Barbara Keeley MP

Barbara cares about the developing world

Hilary Benn MP, Secretary of State for International Development, and Barbara recently held a meeting in Walkden with church groups and local people. The meeting discussed Trade Justice and other issues going on in developing countries.

As a follow up, Barbara presented Hilary Benn with a petition from residents of Worsley constituency. The petition urges the Leaders of the G8 countries who met at Gleneagles a year ago to stick to the action plan they agreed at the summit.

Barbara said:

“Hilary Benn told our meeting that he is inspired in his work on International Development by people like those at our meeting in Walkden because they care about the issue of developing countries.

“I was delighted to welcome Hilary Benn to Walkden and we had a valuable discussion followed by a lively session of questions and answers.

“The attendance at the meeting was good and taken together with the people locally who had signed the petition, it shows that Worsley people do care about the problems of life in the Developing World.”
