Barbara Keeley MP

LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara Caring About Carers

Barbara teamed up with Carers UK at Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth to raise awareness of the many challenges facing unpaid carers.

Barbara has worked closely with carers organisations in the last year through her Identification and Support for Carers Bill (see “Barbara stands up for carers’ rights’ 30 April 2007) and in her role as Parliamentary Champion for Carers Week in June.

Barbara said:

“One in eight adults in the UK give up their own time to look after an ill, frail or disabled relatives. 20,000 of these unpaid carers live in Salford and I am working with Carers UK to try and raise awareness of the range of support that is available to them.”

Barbara is calling for unpaid carers in Salford who do not receive financial, medical or emotional support to contact Salford Carers Centre on 0161 833 0217.
