Barbara congratulates Salford on crime-fighting success

cctv pictureBarbara has congratulated Salford City Council and police in Salford on their success in fighting crime and anti-social behaviour.

Barbara welcomed the news that Salford City Council has won the Government Business Award for public sector security, with a CCTV network judged as one of the most advanced in the country.

Barbara said:

“Crime and anti-social behaviour are high on the list of people’s concerns and every success in fighting crime is very welcome.

"I know how important CCTV can be in the fight against crime. It can help bring successful prosecutions and so deter crime and anti-social behaviour. Salford City Council and Greater Manchester Police have worked well together to bring down crime and since 1998, crime has fallen by a third across Greater Manchester.

"It will be tough to maintain this success in the face of Government cuts and I hope that Salford’s excellent CCTV network helps with the continued fight against crime."
