Barbara expresses concern over factory closure

barbaraBarbara has expressed her concern over the announcement that Eaton Trucks Ltd, Worsley Road North, Walkden plans to close next year.

The closure of the firm will mean the loss of around three hundred jobs, affecting workers mainly in Worsley, but also in other parts of Salford, Leigh and Bolton.

Eaton’s Worsley plant is one of six such plants located around the world. The plant manufactures gears, shafts and range sliding clutches for supply to other Eaton plants.

Eaton are forecasting a downturn in the sales of heavy trucks, which they say is a cyclical change, and that is why the plant must be closed. Eaton have also said that they will try to find new jobs for workers from the Worsley plant at their other plant locations in the UK.

Barbara said:

“I am very sad to see the closure of this business in my constituency. The firm has a very good reputation and has in the past received an award from North-West Excellence Awards for having a strong and focused management team.

“What is needed now is for help to be given to Eaton’s staff to help them with finding new jobs. I have asked JobCentre Plus to get involved and they will be working with the firm from this early stage to understand the needs of staff, to help them with training and then to help locate new jobs for the staff.”
