Barbara helps to find hidden carers

Barbara joined with Staff and volunteers from Salford Carers Centre to give out information to “hidden” carers. The event took place at Salford Royal Hospital as part of Carers Week.

Barbara and the team from the Carers Centre gave out information to family members and friends who were attending the hospital in support of patients who are ill or have a disability or long-term medical condition. Many people care for family members without realising that support, advice and help is available to unpaid carers like themselves.

Barbara said:

“Carers Week is a great way to find “hidden” carers through highlighting the vital work that carers do. Caring for a family member who is ill or who has a disability can bring challenges for the carer too. Salford Carer’s Centre can reach out to carers across Salford and help them to find out about support and services that can help them. Many people do not consider themselves to be carers, particularly those caring for a husband or wife, or a mother or father.

“It was great that Salford Royal were prepared to host the team and their information. I know that many carers were newly identified through the work done that day at the hospital.”
