Barbara invites Social Care Minister Paul Burstow to meet Carers and Staff from Salford Carers Centre

Barbara arranged for Social Care Minister Paul Burstow to visit the area to meet Carers, GPs and Practice staff from Sides Medical Centre and Julia Ellis, Dawn O'Rooke and Andrea Libman from The Princess Royal Trust for Carers.

Barbara organised the visit to show the Minister the excellent work that is being carried out by the Sides Medical Centre and The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in identifying carers.

Barbara said:

"Julia Ellis is the Primary Care Liaison Worker at Salford Carers Centre and she has developed a scheme to ensure that GPs and their practice staff identify carers within their practice population. This helps make sure that carers are directed to sources of help and support and that they can receive health checks. I am a great supporter of this work in Salford and I wanted the Social Care Minister to hear first-hand about the scheme and to hear from carers about the difference it can make if their GP knows they are a carer.

Since the visit, Paul Burstow has told me:

"It was good to note that initiatives to identify and support carers such as those in place at Sides Medical Centre and having real benefits for carers and improving their quality of life."

"I am pleased that arranging this visit meant the Minister could hear first-hand from staff and carers about work being done to support them and it is great that Salford Carers Centre are leading the way with their excellent support for carers locally."
