Barbara just missed election to Labour’s Shadow Cabinet, being placed 23rd in the poll of Labour MPs in which 19 places were being elected. A total of 49 Labour MPs put themselves forward for the Shadow Cabinet.
It was Barbara’s first try in the ballot, after her election in May 2005. Barbara served as a Government Whip from 2008 and as Deputy Leader of the House from 2009.
“I was pleased to win so many votes in the election. Although I just missed out on a place in the Shadow Cabinet I am pleased that we have picked a strong team which has 8 women members, making a total of 11 women overall.
“The new Shadow Cabinet can take its place with our Leader, Ed Miliband, and carry on the important task of holding the Conservative Liberal Democrat Government to account.”
