Barbara meets Northern Rail to discuss Walkden Station

Barbara met with Heidi Mottram, Managing Director of Northern Rail last week to discuss improvements needed to Walkden Station.

During the meeting, Barbara urged Heidi Mottram to ensure Northern Rail works to address a number of problems with the station and its services.

Barbara has been working alongside the campaign group Friends of Walkden Station to raise the profile of the station and is keen to see improvements made. Over the last few months she has also met with key influential political figures within transport; Ruth Kelly MP and Tom Harris MP.

Barbara said:

“I was encouraged by the meeting with Heidi Mottram. It provided me with an opportunity to express the concerns of local people, many of whom are unhappy with the station and the rail services currently available.”

“We talked about the need to bring a greater length of platform into use so that longer trains can stop at Walkden. We also talked about about the need to review connecting services and the longer-term possibility of re-introducing a Sunday service. Heidi Mottram was keen to listen to the points raised and has promised to look into them and take what action she can.”
