Barbara opens new Worsley Jobcentre Plus

Barbara cut the ribbon on Friday to open the new Jobcentre Plus on High Street, Walkden.

The new centre has been created to provide a better customer service to employers, jobseekers and people of working age who are currently unemployed.

Worsley Jobcentre Plus is fortunate to have well established local schemes within the New Deal in the local area, such as the Marriott Hotel and Country Club. There are further opportunities available on local industrial estates which house companies willing to participate in employment initiatives.

Barbara said:

“New Jobcentre Plus offices, like this one, offer a more personal service and bring job finding and benefit services together.

“Jobcentre Plus is directly responsible for giving hope and new future to hundreds of people locally by helping them to find work.

“In the last year I understand that Worsley Jobcentre helped 765 people back into paid employment, 145 lone parents back into paid employment and handled 2,452 vacancies for local employers.

“Jobcentre Plus is a vital part of life in this local community. I am delighted to be able to open this new centre and know that the staff and the centre have an exciting and important future ahead of them.”

Lindsey Harman, District Manager for Jobcentre Plus said:

“I am delighted that so many partners and employers were able to be with us on this special occasion. We were able to show how our newly transformed Jobcentre will help more people to move back into work.

“In future all local customers of working age who wish to claim benefits will be invited to an interview with a personal adviser to discuss their benefit entitlement and, where appropriate, agree the steps they need to take to prepare for work.

“The refurbished Jobcentre, with its bright, modern appearance should provide the right environment to make everyone feel welcome and at ease.”
