Barbara questions if Barton Moss is right location for fracking

As the energy company IGAS hold an information day for the public at Salford City Reds Stadium, Barbara said she did not believe Barton Moss is the right area to explore for shale gas.

Barbara is calling for full answers to be given by energy company Igas to questions she and local people may have about the process of fracking for shale gas.

Barbara said:

“With trillions of feet of shale gas in the North West I don’t believe that we should have the risks of an untested process in this part of Salford. There are two schools less than a mile from the Barton Moss site and houses also less than a mile. Chat Moss is nearby, a precious natural area which Salford needs to protect.”

“Any company coming into an area and looking for shale gas should be honest and transparent with local people about what it could mean for their lives and for their homes. We can only weigh up the issues and risks against any benefits if we can get the information they have.”

“I understand the company has already been talking to landowners about drilling access and industrial companies about gas supply. I hope they can share their plans with local people and the local MP in the way they seem prepared to do with other businesses”
