Barbara questions whether Barton Moss Forum is representative

Barbara Keeley MPBarbara has written to IGas and Salford City Council questioning whether the Community Forum required to be set up by IGas is meeting the obligations set under conditions of the original planning permission for the drilling site at Barton Moss.

Condition 25 of the planning permission states that community engagement should be regularly undertaken by the applicant in order to “ensure that the community have a formal forum with which to discuss any issues that may arise during the construction and operation of the site...”

Barbara says that her constituents have raised questions about whether this condition is being met by IGas and she has been told that people feel they have been excluded from taking part in the Community Liaison Forum.

Barbara said:

“It appears to me that the current structure of the Forum is not ensuring that the whole community is being given the opportunity to discuss all issues that may arise during the construction and operation of the site.

It is essential that all residents in communities affected by operations at the site are able to have their views represented at the Community Forum. If any residents in those communities do not feel that they are being given a voice or a chance to raise issues, then clearly this needs to be addressed.

I am asking both IGas and Salford City Council to look at the concerns that have been raised with me about the Community Forum”
