Barbara Runs 10K for Christie

Barbara completed a 10K run through Heaton Park Manchester to do her part to help raise funds for the Young Adult Oncology Unit at Christie Hospital.

Barbara has worked closely with a group of young patients from the unit, the Christie Crew, and was running to raise money for the Robert Broude Appeal. Robert sadly died of cancer in December 2004, aged just 19, and his parents set up the appeal to fund a new “Oasis Room” for patients at the hospital.

Barbara said:

“This is a worthy cause and I’m pleased to have made my own contribution. I’ve visited the Young Oncology Unit and met some of the teenage patients a number of times. The care they receive at Christie very good indeed, and the Oasis Room can only improve that care. 10K is a long way and I was aching afterwards but I will continue to champion this cause.”

Barbara met up with Robert’s parents, Peter and Helena, at the finish line. They hope to raise around £250,000. Donations can be made to the "CAC Robert Broude Appeal" and sent to Destination Florida Office, Clarendon Business Centre, 38 Clarendon Road, Eccles M30 9ES.
