Barbara short-listed for social welfare champion award

headandshouldersBarbara is delighted to have been short-listed for the 2008 Champion Awards sponsored by ePolitix.

Barbara was nominated in the Social Welfare category by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers. The nomination is for the parliamentarian who has done the most to champion the alleviation of the causes and effects of social injustice.

Barbara has worked closely with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and other carers’ organisations to ensure that the voices of ordinary carers and those that work with them are heard during the Government’s carers strategy review. Barbara also leads the Labour Parties work on Social Care for the next manifesto and is working to ensure that carers’ issues are recognised.

Barbara said:

“I am honoured to have been nominated for this award by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, an organisation which works to support carers in Salford and throughout the UK. I am keen to ensure an improvement in the quality of life for carers as the care they give to family and friends is such a vital part in our system of health and social care.

“The Charity Champion Awards are an excellent way of celebrating the links between parliamentarians and the charitable sector and highlighting the role MPs can play in championing important causes”.

Voting for the awards closes on 14 November and the awards ceremony will take place on 10 December in Westminster.
