LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara signs up to UNIFEM 'Say No to Violence' campaign

Barbara joined fellow Ministers to add her name to a global petition from UNIFEM calling for an end to violence against women.

The campaign calls on Governments to make ending violence against women one of their top priorities and highlights effective strategies to prevent abuse and save women's lives. Over 5 million individuals have now signed up to the campaign, as well as representatives of 60 governments.

Barbara was joined by the Minister for Women and Equality Harriet Harman QC MP, the Solicitor General Vera Baird QC MP, Under Secretary of State at the Government Equalities Office Maria Eagle MP, Nia Griffith MP and Hilary Armstrong MP.

Barbara said:

“Violence against women affects as many as 1 in 3 women and girls during their lifetime and this appalling human rights violation must be addressed. By signing the UNIFEM ‘Say No to Violence’ petition our team of Ministers sends a clear message that violence against women will not be tolerated by this Government.”
