On Sunday 21st August, Barbara met with local volunteers who are working to promote Fairtrade products in Higher Folds, Astley, Tyldesley and Atherton.
The volunteers had a stall with free tasting of Fairtrade products at the Higher Folds Family Fun Day.
Barbara agreed to support the campaign for Fairtrade Borough status for Wigan earlier this year. To be awarded this status, a certain number of outlets serving food and drink need to agree to use Fairtrade products.
"The current target is to get 17 local cafes using at least 2 Fairtrade products. To help the campaign, I will be contacting local cafes in Astley, Tyldesley and Atherton to ask them if they will consider using 2 Fairtrade products. It would be great if a number would sign up. The products include fruit, cakes, chocolate and biscuits as well as the now familiar coffee and tea.
"The tasting samples were much appreciated at the Higher Folds Family Fun day, so I hope the target number of cafes can be reached soon."
