Barbara supported the recent Eccles Festival, spending time talking to local people at the Eccles Recreation Ground and supporting the agencies who were at the Festival to highlight what they do in the local community.
There were a number of dance performances from local groups and the Eccles Borough Band also played a session.
Barbara spent time with the local police and fire service officers as well as local charities who were fundraising at the event and the St Johns Ambulance staff who were providing First Aid cover.
At the City West stand Barbara was invited to learn a little about how to do plastering from a female plasterer – a skill that proved difficult to pick up for all those who gave it a try.
“Community festivals like this one are both fun and important for the work of the many groups and agencies who play a vital role in the community.
“On such a lovely day it was great to meet so many people and local agencies and charities.
“I even managed to try my hand at plastering, although it was as difficult to do as I thought it might be. I have great respect for those people with skills that might be taking for granted in terms of housing repairs and it is also good to know that young women are taking up construction trades and becoming as skilful as the staff member who showed how plastering can be done.”
