Barbara Keeley MP

LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara visits Hindsford CE Primary School

Barbara paid a visit to Year 5 pupils at Hindsford CE Primary School.

Year 5 pupils have been learning about democracy and citizenship, and they asked Barbara to visit Hindsford and tell them about her role as their MP. Barbara also took some information packs about Parliament for the pupils, as well as a set of badges bearing the portcullis – the traditional symbol of Parliament.

Barbara said:

"It was great to visit Year 5. With their class teacher, Mr Halton, the pupils have made an excellent video about democracy in Athenian times and how decisions were made by voting in Athens. I watched the video with the class and then we had a lively Question and Answer session on being an MP and about Parliament."

"There was a lot of interest in the question of Votes at 16 years old, on which there is a Private Members Bill put forward by my colleague Labour MP, Julie Morgan. It was great to see Citizenship and Democracy being covered in such a lively and interesting way and I congratulate Mr Halton and Hindsford CE Primary School on this project."
