Barbara attended a drop-in session at Irlam and Cadishead Healthy Heart Club. The club is organised by Salford Heart Care – an independent local charity which provides practical support to heart patients, their carers and families.
The club was launched just over 12 months ago and is funded by NHS Salford. It gives members the opportunity to enjoy activities such as exercise, dance and healthy eating cookery classes and to get advice on weight management.
“Irlam and Cadishead have been identified by NHS Salford as areas which have a high incidence of heart disease and so the Healthy Heart Club is important to health improvement. It was good to see that Salford Heart Care is working hard to support local people with heart problems and giving support to them and their families and carers.
“It was great to visit the drop-in session at the club, which provides members with support, advice and activities. Members told me that club sessions help them to regain their confidence after illness, with support from the professionals and volunteers. During the visit I watched the demonstration of healthy cooking.
"One of the club members, Marjorie, was celebrating her 91st birthday and I would like to congratulate Marjorie and the Healthy Heart Club for organising a great event.”
