Barbara wears pink to help beat breast cancer

Barbara joined forces with the Breast Cancer Campaign to raise awareness for its fundraising event ‘Wear it Pink’ on Friday 30 October 2009.

Barbara said:

“Breast Cancer is the most common cancer in the UK – one in nine women will experience breast cancer during their lifetime and around 300 men are diagnosed with breast cancer every year.

“Like many others, I know people who have lost friends and family members to breast cancer. I was happy to support the ‘Wear it Pink’ campaign to help raise funds for further research into the disease.

“The NHS breast cancer screening programme currently diagnoses over 14,000 cases of breast cancer each year and saves around 1,400 lives every year. However, more research is needed to understand how breast cancer develops so we can improve diagnosis and treatment.”
