Barbara welcomes 800 future jobs in Salford

Future Jobs Fund logoBarbara has welcomed the Government’s ‘Future Jobs Fund’ that will create at least 800 new jobs in Salford over the next 2 years and put an extra £5 million into the local economy.

The Future Jobs Fund has been introduced to help young people between 18 and 24 stay in employment during the recession. Salford Council was successful in their bid for cash and will now use the money to offer jobs in street repairs, housing refurbishment, caring, community work and health from October.

Barbara said:

“At this time of year there are many young people in Salford who are leaving school or university. They may be concerned about getting a job because of the downturn in the economy. I’m pleased Salford Council have taken advantage of this excellent opportunity and will now be able to create new public service jobs for young people locally.

“There will be further funding rounds and I’d like to encourage all local businesses, charities, and community groups to make bids for the 100,000 jobs that are still available nationally. By doing so we can help prevent our young people in Salford being unemployed.”
