Barbara welcomes decision to halt peat extraction at Chat Moss

Barbara had objected to the continued peat extraction at Chat Moss, which had restarted despite the fact the extraction licence held by the company involved expired at the end of last year.

Salford Council has now issued a temporary stop notice to prevent any further extraction at Chat Moss.

Salford Council must now review and decide on planning applications which would allow the company to continue extracting peat until 2015.

Barbara said:

“I am pleased that Salford Council has issued a stop notice to halt the continued extraction of peat at Chat Moss.

“I will continue to oppose any future applications to extend peat extraction at Chat Moss as I believe it is damaging to the land and the peat bog. This land must be protected and restored to its original form as a natural habitat.”
