Barbara welcomes help for local businesses

headshotBarbara has welcomed a new package of support for small and medium sized businesses to help them through the difficulties caused by the credit crunch.

The package, announced this week by Skills Secretary John Denham and Business Secretary Lord Mandelson, includes free business “health checks”, help with cash flow and better support for training.

Barbara said:

“This decisive action from the Government will benefit businesses in my Worsley constituency. The scheme will help them to train their staff with the minimum of bureaucracy and to get the information and advice they need during this difficult time. I urge local businesses to contact Business Link to get a free “health check” and to access the help available on managing cash flow and other pressures.

“I also encourage small businesses in my constituency to contact their local Council to see if they are eligible for the Small Business Rate Relief, which could help them save up to £1,100 per year. This rate relief scheme was introduced in 2005 to address the disproportionate burden that business rates place on small businesses compared with larger ones.

“Together, these schemes show the Government is on the side of small and medium business owners.”
