Barbara wins nomination for new Worsley and Eccles South seat

barbaraOn Saturday 16th December, Barbara won the Labour Party nomination to fight the new seat of Worsley and Eccles South at the next General Election.

The vote took place in a postal ballot of members which has been conducted over the previous fortnight.

The votes were counted on Saturday at a hustings meeting held at Swinton Civic Centre. Both candidates addressed the meeting and members who had not already voted were able to vote at the event.

The current MP for Eccles, Ian Stewart, was unsuccessful in the contest.

Barbara said:

“I was pleased to have won support in all wards of the new Worsley and Eccles South constituency and would like to thank the members for their confidence in me.

“I am thrilled to have been selected by Labour party members in the new constituency as it means I will be able to carry on the work I have started both locally and nationally.

“I am looking forward to getting to know the new parts of my constituency better and continuing my work as a Salford MP working to improve our services and facilities and to improve quality of life in our communities.”
