Barbara wins Social Welfare Champion Award

Barbara has been awarded a Charity Champions national award for her work on social care.

Barbara was nominated by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers for the award, which recognises the parliamentarian who has done the most to champion the alleviation of the causes and effects of social injustice. Barbara has worked closely with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers and other carers’ organisations to ensure that the voices of ordinary carers and those that work with them are heard.

The Charity Champion Awards were hosted by the political website and introduced by Esther Rantzen. The Social Welfare award was sponsored by Electus. Winners were decided by votes of MPs and Peers.

Barbara said:

“I am honoured to have received this award and I would like to thank The Princess Royal Trust for Carers for nominating me. We are lucky to have a carer’s centre run by The Princess Royal Trust for Carers in Salford and they do great work”

“Through my work in Parliament, I am keen to ensure improvements in the quality of life for carers and I am aware there is still much work to do. I will do my best to ensure carers’ concerns continue to be a high priority in policy making and on the Government’s agenda."
