Barbara has been appointed as the new shadow Minister for Older People, Social Care and Carers.

Barbara’s new role means she will work as the voice of Labour Opposition on issues for Carers, Older People and on social care.

Barbara said:

“I feel privileged to have been appointed as the shadow Minister for Older People, Social Care and Carers. I have worked on carers’ issues and on social care since I became an MP in 2005. I will campaign for increased support for carers and for better care services.

The Conservative Government has made savage cuts to social care, amounting to £4.3 billion of cuts made across the country since 2010. Salford has had a share of these cuts meaning that thousands fewer people are having their care funded, with more cuts planned by the Government.

I want to see us move away from this obsession with cuts and to look at all the ways in which we could improve our care and health services in Salford. That is what carers and older people in Salford deserve.”
