Barbara has welcomed news that a Labour Government will guarantee that patients in Salford will be able to see a GP within 48 hours.
Labour has pledged to make it easier for appointments with a GP to be secured quickly.
A survey of patients in Salford has shown that, while around half of the patients replying were able to get an appointment within 48 hours, a third had to wait a few days and one in seven Salford patients had to wait a week or more.
Barbara supports the plans for GP surgeries in Salford to receive extra funding so that they can offer the additional appointments to patients.
“People in Salford are sick of waiting days before being seen by a local GP. Under this Conservative-led Government thousands of people in Salford have had to wait over 48 hours to see their GP.
“When patients in Salford were asked, only half said they were able to get an appointment with a GP within two days and one in seven patients reported that they had to wait for over a week. This is very worrying and it may be adding to pressures on our hospital Emergency departments, which are already under strain.
“The next Labour Government will put patients first by giving a guarantee for patients to see a local GP within 48 hours.”
