LABOUR MEMBER OF PARLIAMENT FOR WORSLEY AND ECCLES SOUTH

Barbara meets Marie Burns to present her with medals to replace those destroyed in gas explosion

Barbara has visited Marie Burns to present her with replacement military medals for those lost in the gas explosion which destroyed her home.

Barbara and her team had put in a request to the Ministry of Defence to trace and to replace the medals awarded to Marie Burns’ father in World War Two.

Barbara said:

“Marie has been through such a lot with the injuries from the gas explosion and the loss of all she possessed, including her father’s medals. My team and I thought it would be good if we could help Marie by trying to get her father’s medals replaced. The Ministry of Defence were a help in doing this.

“It was great to meet Marie and hear about her experiences. I have real admiration for the way she has come through her injuries – she is a very strong person.”

Marie Burns said:

“I was very upset about the loss of my dad’s medals, so I am very grateful to Barbara for finding the replacements and for visiting my home to give them to me.  The medals are very important to me and I am pleased to have them back.”
