Barbara's statement on the Schools Adjudicator's decision not to close St George's High School

Barbara has responded to news that the Schools Adjudicator has overturned the decision to close St George's High School:

"The decision not to close St George’s High School is very welcome news for staff at the school, for pupils and their families, school governors and the local community.

"St George’s is a successful school with a good ethos, achieving good results and popular with parents and I made these points in a letter to the schools adjudicator.

"The determination by the Schools Adjudicator does not recommend an alternative reorganisation scheme but suggests that the Council could assess alternative options for school re-organisation and then make fresh proposals for consultation. I have pledged to help to move the re-assessment process in any way I can. I hope that the Council, the Diocese and the schools affected can all work together to develop proposals that retain the excellence in St George’s, Harrop Fold and Walkden High Schools.

"The adjudicator does raise possibilities for the future of St George’s which also involve Harrop Fold High School. I would like to emphasise that I also fully support Harrop Fold High School, which has gone from strength to strength under the leadership of Dr Antony Edkins."
