Barbara says the Government’s cuts are a gamble with people’s jo

MEN profile Barbara said she was concerned about whether local people could stay in their jobs, stay in their homes and stay safe from crime after the cuts proposed in the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review.

Barbara said:

“The Government’s cuts are too deep and too fast, taking a dangerous gamble with our economic future and the jobs of people locally. George Osborne’s cuts will cause thousands of people to lose their jobs – without any credible plan to ensure that new jobs will be created.”

“Families with children are being asked to pay more than their fair share. The Government’s Child Benefit cuts amount to more than the levy on the banks and taking more money off families than the banks cannot be right.

“Our Chief Constable, Peter Fahy, has made clear that the Governments cuts will also lead to fewer police officers on our streets, leaving people at greater risk of crime.”
