Barbara supports the “Safe and Sound” campaign  by Guide Dogs for the Blind, which calls for a vital safety feature to be installed on quiet hybrid and electric vehicles to keep pedestrians safe.

Many blind people and their guide dogs cannot hear these quiet vehicles as they approach. The new feature could help save lives by creating an artificial noise that pedestrians will be able to hear.

Barbara said:

“Blind and partially sighted people rely on the sound of an engine to cross a road safely. If they can’t hear cars coming until the last minute, then the chances of an accident happening are greatly increased. This device will help prevent that from happening.”

“I would like the Government to make installation of these devices mandatory, to ensure that injuries and deaths on the roads are reduced.”
