Barbara urges GMITA to back proposals for Sunday Services through Walkden Station

Barbara is urging the Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority to back proposals that could see Sunday services running from Walkden Station.

Recently, Barbara held a meeting with Northern Rail Managing Director, Heidi Mottram, and Rail Minister, Chris Mole, to discuss the proposal for the new services.

Barbara said:

"At the meeting to discuss Sunday Services it was clear that both Northern Rail and the Rail Minister, Chris Mole, are keen to see these new services get off the ground. The costs we looked at seem reasonable to get these much-needed Sunday services running from Walkden. In the summer, Greater Manchester Integrated Transport Authority appeared keen to support this and even approved the proposals in principle at one of their meetings.

“Now we need councillors to follow through and support these proposals at their meeting in early December.”

“Northern Rail and the Department of Transport both appear eager to see this agreed. The Transport Authority have subsidised Sunday services in other parts of Greater Manchester and the people of Walkden and surrounding areas deserve this support to help them use public transport on Sundays. The councillors will be letting down local people if they fail to support this proposal now."
