Barbara urges local community groups to bid for £10m Sport England 'Active Women' Fund

sportenglandBarbara is urging local community groups to bid for funding from the new £10 million ‘Active Women’ fund launched by Sport England and the National Lottery.

The fund has been created to get more women playing sport – particularly women who are caring for young children and those in communities where fewer women take part in sport.

Barbara said:

“There are a number of barriers to women playing sport regularly such as lack of suitable childcare, transport problems, fees and charges and lack of confidence. I am pleased that Sport England has secured funding to help women overcome these barriers.

“I encourage community groups in Worsley and Eccles South to visit the Sport England website ( to see how to apply for funding. Possible projects could include setting up networks for running and ‘taster’ sessions in popular team sports.”
