Barbara welcomes decision on planning permission for Klyne and Klyne site in Walkden

planning zoneFollowing detailed investigations, Urban Vision has now decided that planning permission is required for the use of the site of the former Klyne and Klyne site in Walkden as an outdoor storage facility.

Planning permission was never sought for the new facility by the site’s new users and no consultation was ever conducted with local people.

Barbara took up the issue with Urban Vision after hearing that local people had serious concerns about the change of use of the site - from a self-contained factory to an outdoor storage facility.

Barbara made representations to Urban Vision in September of this year calling for the planning classification of the site to be reviewed and the issues raised by local people constituents to be considered seriously. Urban Vision investigated the matter and concluded that the current occupiers of the site do require planning permission for the change of use. The Local Planning Authority is now in the process of initiating legal action via the service of an Enforcement Notice.

Barbara said:

“This is a positive step forward for local residents. The new usage means that the site has become an eyesore with piles of concrete slabs and 200ft crane overhead. Some people have also complained about dust and noise pollution from the site.

“I raised these concerns with Urban Vision in September and so I am pleased that they have now decided to take action. This initial step in the planning process is an important one. I will continue to represent the objections of local people to ensure they are listened to and to help them regain the quality of life they had before this new usage of the site in their residential area.”
