Barbara welcomes extra money for pensioners and the most vulnerable during the cold snap

winter snowAs the cold weather hits Worsley constituency many vulnerable people and pensioners could be entitled to receive the highest ever Cold Weather Payment.

Barbara has welcomed the news:

“When the temperature drops, no one should be afraid to turn up the heating. The Cold Weather Payment, which has been trebled by the Government this year from £8.50 to £25.00 a week, is paid out every time the average temperature at a weather station falls or is forecast to fall , to 0ºC or below for seven days in a row.

“This cash boost will make a real difference to people in Worsley Constituency who are worried about their fuel bills. These payments are automatically allocated, so there is no need to make a claim.

“The Cold Weather Payment, on top of the extra Winter Fuel Payments means that local pensioners in particular will be able to turn up their heating without having to worry about the cost.”

Those eligible to receive Cold Weather Payments are –

Pensioners, severely disabled people, families with children under five or a severely disabled child, who are receiving the following benefits:

Pension Credit
Income Support
Income – barred Job Seekers Allowance
Income – related Entitlement + Support Allowance.
