Barbara welcomes Government cash for new council housing in Salford

Barbara has welcomed news that the Government has given Salford the green light to build its first new council houses for more than 20 years.

Salford City Council will receive a Government grant of over £8 million to build more than a hundred new council homes. Of this, £4.5 million has been allocated to build 53 new council homes in Worsley constituency.

Barbara said:

“This is great news for people in Worsley and other parts of Salford. This is the first new council house building programme for almost two decades and I am glad that my constituents will benefit from the Government’s decision to continue to invest during the recession.

“The investment is also a shot in the arm for our local economy, as the building scheme will create or maintain much-needed jobs in the construction industry in Salford.

“Salford Council has urged the Government to consider providing funding for new council housing and it is very welcome that the Government has listened and responded with this extra funding. I hope the new homes can be delivered as soon as possible.”
