November 2011 marked a year on from the Irlam gas explosion but there was no news then of any findings from the investigation being undertaken by the Health and Safety Executive.
Barbara Keeley MP wrote to the Health and Safety Executive expressing strong concerns about the length of time the Executive was taking to complete the investigation. Barbara pointed out the delay was having an impact on local people in Irlam, who could not move on until they knew what caused the explosion.
Barbara has now received a progress report from the Health and Safety Executive on the status of the investigation. She said:
“The Health and Safety Executive have told me that their investigation is now concluded and all necessary statements and witness interviews have been taken. They will now be considering the evidence to decide what action should be taken, if any.
“The Health and Safety Executive say that they anticipate being able to announce the outcome by the end of February. It is welcome that we now have an end date in sight for this important investigation.”
