  • Carers Trust’s local Network Partners are carer services across the UK, offering information, advice, practical support and/or care in the home. Many of them, but not all, have services for young carers and young adult carers. Find your nearest one by searching on the website.
  • The Children’s Society can also help you find a young carers service near you.

General advice and resources for young carers

  • The Children’s Society works with children and young people and has lots of advice and resources for young carers on its website. You can live chat with the Supporter Care Team who are there to help from 10am-4pm Monday to Friday.
  • You can also look in the Help and advice section of the Carer’s Trust website to find the information you are looking for, although please be aware it has been written for carers who are 18 and over so may not always be relevant if you are under 18.
  • Carers UK is the UK’s membership charity for carers of all ages offering advice, information and an online forum for carers over 18.
  • Find out how to apply for Carer’s Allowance, hear stories from other young people on their experience of being a carer and get loads of info on caring for someone on the Young Scot website for young people in Scotland.
  • The Mix provides information and advice to young people under the age of 25 on things such as mental health, relationships and money. The Mix has a free crisis messenger service, see The Mix website for details. You can can also call the Mix on Freephone: 0808 808 4994 (4pm-11pm, seven days a week).
  • Childline provides a 24-hour service to young people under 19-years-old. It offers advice, information and access to a counselling service.  You can also call Childline on Freephone: 0800 1111.

Getting into Work is a handbook for young adult carers who want to get into work. It will be particularly useful if you are looking for work for the first time, have been out of work for a while or if you are in work but looking for a new job.

Wellbeing and mental health

  • Samaritans provides 24-hour support if you need to talk. You can call Samaritans on Freephone: 116 123.
  • Young Minds offers information about looking after yourself, coping with mental health issues, feelings, symptoms and conditions. Young Minds has a free 24-hour crisis messenger if you are experiencing a mental health crisis.  Find out more on the Young Minds’ website.
  • Kooth provides free  anonymous online support for young people. You can read articles written by young people, speak with a counsellor and access support from the Kooth community.  Available: Monday-Friday:12pm-10pm and Saturday-Sunday: 6pm-10pm.
